Nigerian singer, Tiwatope Omolara Savage, better known as Tiwa Savage, has explained why she chose to collaborate more with male artistes than female musicians.

The 46-year-old Queen of Afrobeats described the situations where songs featuring female artists did not receive the promotion she expected.

She listed out her songs with Waje, Simi, Ayra, Yemi Alade and many more that didn’t really do well when compared to other female singers in the industry.

Tiwa Savage said while refuting the claim of not collaborating with female artistes, “I have done the most features with female artistes in Nigeria. My thing is, why are these gatekeepers not promoting it?”

She said she didn’t feel encouraged to keep working as it wasn’t yielding.

Speaking on her collaboration with Odumodublvck, Tiwa Savage revealed how this was a practical decision because of the audience and streams she knew the collaboration could attract.

“When I feature female artists, they don’t promote the songs. So when I feature Odumodublvck, knowing it’ll give me millions of streams, they start complaining.”

Tiwa Savage also pointed to her relationships with Yemi Alade and Ayra Starr as examples of how she has responded when people tried to create rivalry between female artists.

“When they pitted me against Yemi Alade, I brought her on my show. When they pitted me against Ayra Starr, I made a song with her.”

Tiwa Savage reveals that she has done songs with Efya and Becca, and they didn’t promote them. She revealed this interaction is part of why people think she doesn’t like featuring female artistes

She expresses that she supports female artistes as best as she can and doesn’t appreciate the comparison or speculations about a rivalry between her and other Nigerian female musicians.
