NANS Ogun JCC attends strategic security stakeholders’ meeting at DS Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun Joint Campus Council (JCC), ably led by Comr. Olabode Faruq (SUCCESS), today attended a strategic security stakeholders’ meeting held at DS Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, to deliberate on the growing security concerns affecting students and the host communities.

The meeting had in attendance the representative of the Honourable Commissioner for Education, the Olu of Itori, the Olu of Eruku, the Olu of Afowowa, community leaders, CDA chairmen, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the institution, the Rector, members of the Academic Board, the Students’ Union Government led by Comr. Okunuga Opeyemi, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Itori Division, the Amotekun Corps, and other security agencies.

Speaking on behalf of the students’ constituency, I presented the following key demands as immediate measures to improve the safety and security of students:

1. Installation of CCTV surveillance cameras and solar-powered street lights across students’ hostels and strategic locations within the institution and adjoining communities.
2. Deployment of adequate security personnel across the host communities where students reside.
3. Provision of a functional patrol vehicle to strengthen the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force in the area.

I emphasized that the prevailing security challenges require a collective responsibility. Ensuring the safety of students cannot be left to one institution alone; it demands collaboration among the institution’s management, the Students’ Union, traditional rulers, community leaders, security agencies, government, and every well-meaning resident of the host communities.

At the conclusion of the meeting, I passionately appealed to the Olu of Itori to further engage companies operating within the host communities to extend meaningful interventions and execute developmental projects that will directly benefit DS Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic and improve the welfare and security of its students.

The leadership of NANS Ogun JCC remains unwavering in its commitment to protecting the interests, welfare, and security of all students across Ogun State. We will continue to engage relevant stakeholders until practical and lasting solutions are achieved.
