Operatives of the Owode-Egba Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 27 years old man, Zacheus Joseph, over alleged rape and armed robbery in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect was accused of allegedly forcing a woman at knifepoint into a nearby bush in Abaren Village, via Ofada, where he reportedly raped her before stealing her iPhone 11, Samsung Galaxy A13 and an HP laptop.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, saying the victim reported the incident at the Ofada Police Outpost on July 26, 2026.
According to Babaseyi, the complainant alleged that the suspect attacked her while she was visiting an acquaintance in the community and fled with her valuables after the assault.
He said police operatives acted swiftly on intelligence provided by members of the community and arrested the suspect the same day while he was allegedly attempting to sell one of the stolen mobile phones.
The police spokesperson added that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspect’s involvement in the crime and to recover the remaining stolen items.
Meanwhile, detectives attached to the Ibara Division of the command have recovered a stolen Toyota Camry.
Babaseyi explained that the vehicle, recovered on Monday, was confirmed to have been reported stolen on July 26, 2026, at the Oke Itoku Division, adding that the rightful owner has since been contacted for its release.
