Security forces have arrested a suspected commander of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), identified as Chima Ejiofor Emmanuel, also known as “Morocco,” during an operation in Imo State.

The suspect was apprehended on June 15 at a maternity hospital in Okigwe Local Government Area, where he was reportedly recovering from an appendicitis operation.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday.

According to him, preliminary investigations indicated that Emmanuel was an active member of the proscribed group operating within the Okigwe area.

Onoja stated that the suspect admitted joining the organisation in 2025 and participating in its activities before stepping back due to health-related issues.

The military also announced the arrest of another suspect, Emeka Kalu Chiowa, alleged to be involved in kidnapping activities and logistics support for IPOB and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

Chiowa was arrested during a raid in Afara Isuama, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.

The Defence Headquarters further revealed that troops operating in Edo State disrupted a kidnapping syndicate through a series of targeted operations.

One suspect was arrested along Ihumudumu Road in Ekpoma, while intelligence gathered from him led to the arrest of another alleged accomplice during a follow-up operation at Ujuelen Extension.

On June 17, troops also apprehended a wanted kidnapping suspect, Musadik Tanimu, during an operation in Igo Community, Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.

According to the military, the arrests dealt a significant blow to criminal networks involved in kidnappings and ransom operations across the affected areas, while investigations continue to uncover further links within the syndicates.
