The lawmaker representing Ogun Waterside State Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Lawal Samusideen Adekunle (Lawee), has visited Iwopin Kingdom to sympathise with residents affected by a recent rainstorm that caused widespread destruction across the community.
The severe weather incident left several residents displaced after damaging more than 50 buildings, including homes, schools, and other public and private facilities. During the visit, Hon. Lawee inspected affected areas to assess the extent of the damage and interact with victims.
Among the institutions impacted by the storm were St. Kizito’s High School, Iwopin, Local Government Primary School I and II, St. Peter’s Anglican School, and other community facilities. The lawmaker expressed concern over the scale of destruction but thanked God that no lives were lost.
He assured residents that the matter would be promptly brought to the attention of relevant government agencies, including the Ogun State Ministry of Education and the Ogun State Emergency Management Agency (OGSEMA), to facilitate immediate intervention and relief for affected victims.
As part of his visit, Hon. Lawee also inspected public institutions such as schools and the police station, pledging support for the provision of essential facilities including toilets, boreholes, pumping machines, and generators where needed.
The lawmaker further reaffirmed his commitment to education in the constituency by announcing a monthly stipend of ₦10,000 each for ten Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teachers selected from three primary schools to complement their existing income.
He urged residents to remain calm and united, assuring them that efforts were underway to secure the necessary support to help the community recover from the disaster and restore normalcy. He also offered prayers for the continued safety and wellbeing of the people of Iwopin Kingdom and the entire Ogun Waterside State Constituency.
