FG declares May 1 public holiday for Workers’ Day celebration

The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s International Workers’ Day.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.

He extended congratulations to workers across the country, acknowledging their vital role in national development.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo praised Nigerian workers for their resilience, diligence, and commitment, noting that their contributions remain central to the nation’s growth and prosperity. He urged workers to continue to uphold values of patriotism, productivity, and dedication, describing them as essential pillars for sustainable development.

Reaffirming government commitment, the Minister stated that efforts are ongoing to enhance workers’ welfare, strengthen security, and create an enabling environment for economic progress.

He also called on Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding during the holiday, encouraging citizens to reflect on the importance of unity, hard work, and collective responsibility in nation-building.
