The Ogun State Police Command has recorded significant gains in its ongoing anti-crime operations, arresting four suspects and recovering illegal firearms and ammunition in coordinated raids across Mowe, Sagamu, and Odeda.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the operations were intelligence-led and targeted at tackling cultism, illegal possession of weapons, and other violent crimes.
According to him, operatives of the Mowe Division, acting on credible information from a member of the public on April 14, arrested a 36 year old suspect, Opeyemi Anuoluwapo, at Mowe Bus Stop. A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, an expended cartridge, and charms. He reportedly confessed to being a member of the Eiye confraternity.
In a related operation, operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) apprehended a 30-year-old suspect, Asaye Ajibola, during a stop and search exercise along the Sagamu Ogijo Road. He was intercepted while riding a motorcycle and found in possession of a firearm loaded with cartridges, which he could not satisfactorily explain.
Babaseyi further disclosed that another suspect, Adedeji Olufemi, 49, was arrested the following day in the same area during a routine patrol, with a double barrel firearm and additional cartridges recovered from him.
In a separate incident in the Sawmill area of Osiele, Odeda Local Government Area, a vigilante member, Mutiu Sadiku, allegedly discharged a firearm accidentally, injuring three persons. He has since been taken into custody, while the victims are receiving treatment in hospital and are said to be responding.
All suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended officers involved in the operations for their professionalism and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intensifying intelligence-driven policing across the state.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, stressing that public cooperation is vital in the fight against crime.
