The Kano State House of Assembly, under the leadership of the Right Honourable Jibril Ismail Falgore, has formally set aside impeachment proceedings against the former Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, following his resignation from office.

At today’s plenary session presided over by the Rt. Hon. Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore, the Speaker read a resignation letter received from the former Deputy Governor, effective 27 March 2026, pursuant to Section 306(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

In a statement released by the Speaker’s spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, the letter reads in part:

“I, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, Deputy Governor of Kano State, hereby tender my voluntary resignation from office, effective 27 March 2026.”

Earlier, the Majority Leader, Hon. Lawal Hussain Dala, while briefing journalists, explained that the House withdrew the charges following the Deputy Governor’s resignation.

He added that it is left to anti‑graft agencies to pursue any alleged offences. “We are not the EFCC or ICPC; we discharge our responsibilities as a legislative body,” he said.

In a related development, the member representing Kiru Constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly has officially notified the chamber of his resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), effective 29 March 2026.

Hon. Kiru said the decision followed consultations with many constituents and was prompted by lingering crises within the NNPP.  Meanwhile, the House has received the Local Government Audited Accounts for the year ended 31 December 2024.

The Hon. Tukur Muhammad Fagge, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, while submitting the report, thanked members for their strong commitment and support.

Also, the Chairman of the Committee on Higher Education, Hon. Abdulhamid Abdul Minjibir, moved a motion for a bill to establish Minjibir College of Education and Legal Studies. According to Hon. Minjibir, establishing the college in Minjibir will serve the interests of people in the region and support the government’s drive to decongest the city.

In his welcome remarks after the four‑week Sallah break, the Speaker said: “On behalf of the entire Kano State House of Assembly, I extend our heartfelt felicitations to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, and the good people of Kano State on the successful completion of Ramadan fasting and the Eid‑el‑Fitr celebration.

I urge all citizens of Kano to sustain these noble values in our daily lives, as they are essential ingredients for peaceful coexistence, unity and sustainable development.”
