The UK government has sparked global controversy after barring American rapper Kanye West, also known as Ye, from entering the country—forcing the abrupt cancellation of a major music festival.

Authorities reportedly rejected West’s travel application, citing concerns that his presence would not serve the public good due to his history of antisemitic remarks.

The decision immediately triggered the collapse of the Wireless Festival in London, where he had been scheduled to headline all three nights in July.

Organisers confirmed the cancellation in a statement, blaming the UK Home Office’s action for the disruption.

“As a result of the Home Office banning YE from entering the United Kingdom, Wireless Festival has been forced to cancel,” they announced.

They added that all ticket holders would receive automatic full refunds, noting that tickets had only just gone on sale.

The controversy had already intensified over the weekend, with major sponsors, including Pepsi and Diageo, pulling out of the event.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer had earlier criticised the booking, calling it “deeply concerning.”

“This government stands firmly with the Jewish community, and we will not stop in our fight to confront and defeat the poison of antisemitism,” he stated.

West, who last performed in the UK at the Glastonbury Festival in 2015, has faced sustained backlash over inflammatory statements, including praise for Adolf Hitler.

In May 2025, he released a controversial track titled “Heil Hitler” and had earlier promoted a swastika-themed T-shirt on his website.

The song was subsequently banned across major streaming platforms, further deepening the backlash against him.
