The Ogun State Government has stepped up its response to a suspected chemical leak in Ijebu-Ode, with top environmental officials visiting affected schools and victims while assuring residents of measures to protect public health.

The Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Ola Oresanya, alongside the General Manager of the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), Hon. Kehinde Bello, led an inspection team to Our Lady of Apostles Primary School, one of the areas impacted by the incident.

The visit formed part of the government’s emergency response to assess the situation and ensure the safety of pupils, staff, and residents within the vicinity.

During the exercise, Bello also inspected Sacred Heart Catholic College, located nearby, where he evaluated the extent of the impact and reassured school authorities of prompt government intervention.

He further visited the State Hospital in Ijebu-Ode, where some of the affected students are currently receiving treatment, to monitor their condition and show support.
As part of efforts to uncover the source of the leak, OGEPA has deployed and installed specialised monitoring equipment in the area to aid ongoing investigations.
