A 16-year-old girl, identified as Abel Efe Favour, has reportedly been subjected to abuse after her sexual orientation became known in her community on January 19, 2023.

Sources said the incident began when a neighbour allegedly caught the teenager expressing affection toward another female, thereby exposing what had been a private relationship. Another resident was said to have informed her father about the development.

The father, who was reportedly angered by the revelation, allegedly directed some boys in the neighbourhood to discipline her. 

The girl was subsequently apprehended and subjected to physical abuse in an attempt to make her abandon the relationship.

Abel Efe Favour was said to have sustained serious injuries during the incident, prompting her mother to rush her to a hospital for treatment.

Further reports indicated that the father later insisted that the girl undergo female genital mutilation and be married off to a man said to be in his 50s

However, her mother was said to have opposed the plan. In a bid to protect her daughter, she allegedly arranged for her to be taken to a relative’s residence for her safety purposes.

As of the time of filing this report, Abel Efe Favour whereabouts remain unknown to her father, raising concerns about her safety.
