Bayelsa State Director of Sports and leader of delegation to the 2026 Para Festival holding in Abuja, the nations capital, Mr. Andrew Aye, has urged the state contingent to rise to the occasion and defend their crown won in 2024.

Speaking to journalists in Yenagoa shortly before the team’s departure, Mr. Aye urged the athletes to remain resolute and focused as they prepare for the championship scheduled to run from March 26 to April 3rd.

While applauding the athletes for their unwavering determination and commitment over the years, he noted that their performance have continued to place Bayelsa on the map as a leading force in para sports in Nigeria.

Mr. Aye who said the team has been provided everything needed to ensure that they excel, reminded them of their enviable status haven won both the first and second editions, stressed the importance of maintaining the feat.

“You have done it before, and you can do it again,” he said. “Carry the spirit of champions with you and represent Bayelsa with pride and excellence.”

He further reassured the team of government’s continuous support, emphasizing that the development of para sports remains a key focus.

To guarantee a smooth and comfortable journey, the team travelled in four Marco Polo buses, a move Aye said was deliberately arranged to keep the athletes in top condition ahead of the competition.

With confidence high and preparations in place, Team Bayelsa heads to Abuja determined to clinch a third consecutive title and reinforce its dominance on the national stage.

The delegation has a total number of 430, comprising athletes, MOC, LOC, Team officials, coaches,Technical Officials, Essential Staff and Support Staff.
