Following the prolonged epileptic power supply suffered by residents of Yenagoa the state capital and other parts of the State, the state government is telling whoever that cared to listen that the ugly situation will soon be a thing of the past with the state 60 megawatt independent gas turbine project nearing commissioning.

Residents of the state who have suffered several postponements of the dates of inauguration of the gas turbine project, lamented that they have gone for several weeks without power.

However, the Commissioner of Information, Strategy and Orientation, Mrs Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai , has expressed the government enthusiasm on the commissioning of the project expected to be performed by President Bola Tinubu.

Koku-Obiyai who stated this on Tuesday while fielding questions from members of the Federated Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, after the group independent visit to the gas turbine site at Elebele, Ogbia Local Government Area, urged residents of the state to continue to support the state government.

She said:”The problem is the commissioning date, over the months we have been giving dates but this time we want everything to be set and we are believing that the president of this nation will come and commission it.

“So there are a lot of processes to tidy up, so I want Bayelsans to continue to support the government. You have gone round and you have seen it with your eyes, that is why I always say, don’t sit down at home and criticize but go and see what your government is doing with your eyes. Let us calm down and continue to believe and in no distant time the light will be on.”

Also fielding questions from newsmen at the gas turbine project site, Elebele, Ogbia Local Government Area, the Director of Operations of the Bayelsa Electricity Company, Mr. Steve Bubagha, said the contractors are working round the clock and putting finishing touches to deliver the project.

The commissioner for information orientation and strategy Hon Ebiowu Kuku Obi sta,over the months we’ve been giving time to generate the power by february, by this time now we want everything to be set.

“According to her we are believing that the president of this nation will come and commission the gas turbine so there are a lot of processes to tie that up,so i want Bayesans to continue to support the government and to know because you have gone and you have seen it with your eyes that’s why I always say.

” Furthermore she explained It’s not so good to remain at home and criticize you go and see what your government is doing the government is doing so much, we have invested so much and I believe that by essence we will benefit from it all of us so let us calm down continue to believe and I know in no distance time the light will be up has the president been invited and what date is on invitation you know that to invite the president is a process.”

Engineer Steve Bubagha sight manager what we are doing now is we are checking what we’ve done we are checking to see that we have not started the test run, I don’t want to use the word commissioning,but all the bolts, all the things we’ve done we are going back to them and cross checking that’s what we are doing now.

“On the scale of 1 to 10, where are we 1 to 100 the turbine is a very sensitive issue to my essence and so when we are addressing the problem, we are also very, very careful what we say you’ve been here before, you’ve seen it, and you should be able to deduce and say yes, we have achieved it however, by the mercies of God.”

“He explained that a day is coming where we are going to run the sex when are you doing first running when I can’t say, i can’t avail that to you ,It’s only the MD that will be able to avail that to you,aside by Yenegoa metropolis which other communities are going to be covered for now, it’s Yenegoa we’ve said that often enough for now, it’s Yenegoa that will be covered. So why job is almost completed again.”

What we have is 60 megawatts that is total but how does the units contribute to it some are even bigger than some some capacities are bigger than some, when you finish, sir, will this be able to serve Yenegoa.
