The Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluyinka Abiodun Olumide, has called on estate developers and other stakeholders to adhere strictly to building regulations, even as he received an award for leadership in urban development.

Olumide made the call on Saturday at the Champion Newspapers Annual Awards held at Eko Hotel and Suites, where he was honoured with the Exceptional Leadership in Physical Planning and Urban Development Award.

Speaking after receiving the award, the commissioner emphasised the need for developers to obtain necessary layout approvals and building permits before commencing construction.

According to him, adherence to planning regulations is critical to achieving a well-organised, liveable, and sustainable urban environment in Lagos State.

He also expressed appreciation to the organisers for the recognition, reaffirming his commitment to promoting orderly and regulated urban development.

The event attracted prominent personalities, including Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and former Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel, who chaired the occasion.

Also honoured at the event was the Lagos State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Abiodun Ogunleye, who received an award for Outstanding Public Service in Urban Infrastructure and Energy Development.

Other notable awardees included former military governor of Lagos State, Mohammed Buba Marwa; Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo; and Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, among others.
