Head coach Sébastien Desabre has insisted the DR Congo national football team fully deserve their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup intercontinental play-off.

The Leopards advanced after defeating the Nigeria national football team in a dramatic African play-off final that was settled by penalties.

Desabre praised his players for their resilience, saying the team’s progress is the result of years of dedication.

Speaking to FIFA, the coach said the squad had endured both difficult and successful moments together.

“It’s about everything we’ve been through together – the highs and the lows,” he said.

“Those experiences have made us stronger and more resilient, and they’ve led us to this point.”

“After all the hard work the players and the staff have put in over the last three years, they’ve thoroughly earned it.”

DR Congo will now face either Jamaica national football team or New Caledonia national football team for a place at the World Cup.
