‘They said Tinubu killed my Child’ – Remi Surutu breaks silence

Veteran Nollywood actress Remilekun Oshodi has revealed how online critics attacked her during the 2023 election campaign, accusing her of supporting Bola Ahmed Tinubu despite the tragic death of her daughter.

Speaking during the official launch of EKO57 on Sunday, the actress said trolls blamed her for her daughter’s death simply because she publicly campaigned for the president.

Despite the backlash she faced in 2023, Surutu declared that she remains fully committed to supporting Tinubu and would campaign for him again without fear.

The actress said she refused to be intimidated by critics and challenged those who believe Tinubu has failed to present a better alternative from their own families.

She said, “I am not scared. I’ve been campaigning for so many years. People bashed me on the internet during campaign time. They said a lot. They even insulted me and said, a day to election, that it was Asiwaju that I was following who killed my child. But I care less.

“I still went on the second day to go and vote. Your vote is your right. Don’t let anybody deceive you. Don’t let anybody scare you. When I met B Tinubu, our Baba, he was doing well. If you think he has not done well, suggest a man in your family. Let that person come and govern for just one day.

“Then you will know what is going on. But I am telling myself, I am not backing out. I am going to campaign for him, and I am going to vote for him. And he has my vote.”

The actress also used the opportunity to speak about the challenges of political loyalty, saying many politicians switch allegiance only when financial benefits are involved.

She added that if Tinubu had not been managing several issues quietly, Nigeria might have already slipped into deeper crises, noting that many critics often fail to see the sacrifices leaders make behind the scenes.
