Nottingham Forest have plunged deeper into instability by appointing Vitor Pereira as their fourth manager of the season. The 57-year-old, recently sacked by Wolverhampton Wanderers, replaces Sean Dyche after just 114 days in charge.

Former Wolves boss Pereira agreed to an 18-month contract with Forest, who ruthlessly sacked Sean Dyche earlier this week in what has become a revolving-door saga at the City Ground.

Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou have also been dismissed during a turbulent campaign that now resembles crisis management more than long-term planning.

“Nottingham Forest is delighted to confirm that Vitor Pereira has been appointed as head coach on an 18-month deal,” a club statement said, despite growing questions about structural stability.

Pereira will now be tasked with dragging Forest away from the Premier League relegation zone, inheriting a squad short on confidence and consistency.

Dyche was axed following Wednesday’s 0-0 draw against Wolves, a result that exposed Forest’s blunt attack despite 35 attempts on goal.

Pereira himself had been unemployed since being sacked by Wolves in November after a disastrous start to the season.

The 57-year-old Portuguese coach had previously saved Wolves from relegation in 2024-25 after replacing Gary O’Neil, but failed to replicate that rescue act this term.

He also has history with Forest’s volatile owner Evangelos Marinakis, having worked under him at Greek giants Olympiacos.

Pereira’s first test comes in the Europa League play-off first leg at Fenerbahce next week — a daunting baptism amid domestic turmoil.

However, his primary mission is clear: avoid relegation and steady a club spiralling toward crisis.

Forest sit just three points above the drop zone with 12 games remaining.

Dyche’s dismissal came hours after Forest’s goalless stalemate despite 35 shots, underscoring the impatience within the hierarchy.

Dyche lasted only 114 days, following Postecoglou’s astonishingly brief 39-day reign in October.

The managerial chaos is particularly striking given that Nuno guided Forest to an impressive seventh-place finish last season.

That achievement secured Forest’s first European campaign since 1995-96, but disagreements over transfers led to Nuno’s September exit after 21 months.

Pereira first built his reputation at Porto, winning back-to-back league titles during a dominant two-year spell.

He has since managed Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia, Fenerbahce in Turkey, Shanghai SIPG in China, and Brazilian giants Corinthians and Flamengo.

Forest fans will hope his global experience finally halts the chaos consuming their season.
