The spate of attacks by unknown gunmen in Eastern Nigeria, particularly in Enugu State, has continued to generate fear and anxiety among residents.

On September 16, a serious attack occurred at Obunagu, Amankwo Eke in Udi Local Government Area of the state, where suspected assassins struck the Ede family compound.

Mr. Chinedu Darlington Ede was reportedly shot dead in cold blood at about 5 p.m., while the family house was subsequently set ablaze by the assailants.

Residents of the area fled to undisclosed locations for safety following the incident.

Eyewitnesses, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity for security reasons, disclosed that the Ede family had been under persistent attack over the years. They alleged that the deceased’s elder brother, Benjamin Ede, has been missing for months.

According to the sources, the attackers were seen questioning passers-by about Benjamin’s whereabouts and confirming the family compound before launching the invasion.

The incident has further heightened concerns over security in the state, with residents lamenting what they described as inadequate protection of lives and property by security agencies.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Enugu State Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant, assuring that those responsible for the attack would be apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law.
