The Ogun State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for what it described as unmatched economic and infrastructural transformation across the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the student body praised the governor’s leadership style, noting that his administration has repositioned Ogun State as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing subnational economies.
According to NANS, the Abiodun-led administration, in its six years in office, has surpassed previous governments in the scale and impact of development projects, particularly in economic growth, infrastructure and governance.
The association said Ogun State has strengthened its position as Nigeria’s leading industrial hub, attracting local and foreign investments, expanding its revenue base and creating employment opportunities for youths. It added that the steady rise in the state’s internally generated revenue reflects growing investor confidence and an improved business environment.
NANS identified infrastructure development as a major highlight of the administration, citing the governor’s announcement that about 1,500 kilometres of roads have been constructed across the state within six years. The association noted that the road projects span urban and rural communities, improving connectivity, boosting commerce and enhancing access to education, healthcare and security.
The student body also described the Gateway International Agro Cargo Airport as a landmark achievement, saying the facility is designed to promote agro-exports, logistics, tourism and industrial growth. According to NANS, the airport is already generating direct and indirect employment while positioning Ogun as a strategic economic gateway in the Southwest.
In the education sector, NANS said the administration has shown strong commitment to innovation, highlighting the distribution of electronic tablets to 1,910 public primary and junior secondary schools to support the Basic Education Management Information System.
The association further noted the approval of a ₦1 billion AI-powered digital classroom project at Remo Secondary School, describing it as a step towards equipping students with digital and artificial intelligence skills for the future workforce.
NANS said the impact of the administration has been felt across the three senatorial districts of the state. It noted that Ogun East has benefited from major road projects, educational upgrades and the agro cargo airport; Ogun Central from urban renewal, industrial infrastructure and road networks; and Ogun West from renewed investments in roads, education and social infrastructure.
The association also commended the governor for assembling what it described as a competent leadership team to drive governance, specifically acknowledging the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi, and the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, for their roles in administrative coordination and education reforms.
NANS concluded that the achievements recorded by the Abiodun administration in six years have surpassed those of previous administrations, adding that the government has delivered visible progress and renewed hope for students and young people in the state.
The statement was signed by the Chairman of NANS Ogun Axis, Comrade Abiola Gabriel Francis.
