Niger Delta Grassroots Organization, NDGO, says Governor Sheriff Oborovweri, should deploy performance in Warri metropolis to secure massive 2027 support of the influential Chief Eugene Ikomi-led Elders League known for peace and development advocacy for Warri.
NDGO National Coordinator, Comrade Weyinmi Olley, spoke against the backdrop of the Governor’s recently expressed fears of losing votes amidst escalating socio-political tensions in Warri. Olley said “The Governor Oborevwori’s desire for sustainable peace in Warri is achievable by working with groups like the Elders League comprising old Warri Boys with a proven record of peacebuilding in the Warri area”.
Trusting his recommendation, Olley recalled: “In the heat of the Warri crises from 1997, Collins Eselemo under the Warri National Congress led Ijaw, Itsekiri, Urhobo, and others in cosmopolitan Warri to pursue peace. The peace deals of Chief Tony Prest are also in our memory, even as the Warri Ijaw Itsekiri Grassroots Peace Front, WIIGPF, led by Kingsley Otuaro, Esq., which rose in 2004 to stop hostilities in Warri. Also, Tompolo’s recent huge N10 billion donation to the Delta State Security Trust Fund, for example, reflects the extent to which he wants Governor Oborevwori to succeed beyond 2027”.
“As a Warri boy himself, with a promise to uplift Warri town proper, Governor Oborevwori should work with and make proud the assemblage of old Warri boys like Mr Ray Ukueku,
Ebiowei aka Yellowman, HM Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, HM, Kingsley Orerhi, Igbi II, the Ovie of Agbarha-Warri Kingdom, HM the Orosuen of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom Warri, HM Couple Oromoni, Monbene III, the Pere/Amakosu of Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom, Chief Tunde Smooth, Chief Benard Okumagba, Mr Justin Rewane, Chief Government Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo, Chief Ayirimi Emami, Pa Broderick Bozimo,
Amaju Pinick, Anslem Okudu, among others. These personalities have been working quietly for peace in the area”, Olley asserted.
The activist emphasized that Governor Oborevwori should equip the old Warri Boys “with a compelling developmental legacy story in Warri metropolis, attractive enough to activate their advocacy for his return in 2027.
The governor should quickly ensure Warri town proper enjoy flyover bridges at strategic locations as the busy Igbudu market area, the Main Market area and the Okumagba Estate roundabout for traffic flow and aesthetics, an electricity gas turbine to restore Warri to economic glory and a 24-hr DBS TV station to report the Governor’s performance to the grassroots who cannot sustain subscription to international television stations”.
