‘World has finally bowed’ — Tinubu salutes Fela’s Grammy honour

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has joined global voices hailing the posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award conferred on Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, declaring that history has finally bowed to a giant.

In a personal tribute, Tinubu described Fela as more than a musician, portraying him as a fearless revolutionary whose influence transcended sound, politics, and generations.

According to the President, the late Afrobeat pioneer embodied courage, creativity, and resistance, confronting injustice while reshaping global music culture.

“His courage, creativity, and conviction defined a generation and continue to inspire the world,” Tinubu said, adding that in Yoruba cosmology, Fela had transcended mortality.

Tinubu noted that the Grammy honour marked a historic milestone, as Fela became the first African to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, even if posthumously.

He said the recognition affirmed Fela’s foundational role in shaping Afrobeat and influencing contemporary Afrobeats across the globe.

“Fela lives,” the President declared, stressing that the icon’s ideals and sound remain immortal.
