A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and staunch member of the Rainbow Coalition Movement in Rivers State, Hon Martin Olaka, has stated it loud and clear that Gov Siminalaiyi Fubara does not stand any chance of going for a second tenure, the reason being that he has failed the first test of trustworthiness in his current tenure.
Olaka, a pro-Wike politician, stated this in an interview with journalists at the sidelines of the
inauguration of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors on Friday in Port Harcourt.
According to him, as long as Nyesom Wike remains the political leader of Rivers State, Fubara cannot go for a second tenure.
Asked why they have started campaigning ahead of the official election timetable of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Olaka said " nobody is talking about political parties now in Rivers State.
“Renewed Hope Ambassadors is not a political party, so nobody is campaigning or talking about any
political party.
“All we know now in Rivers State is the Rainbow Coalition and the FCT Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike, is our leader.
“Anybody he asked us to support or vote for is who all our votes go to.
“If Fubara like let him understand that he cannot get a second tenure ticket.
He is just wasting his time and money. He can't go anywhere.
“As far as we are concerned, he can no longer be entrusted with power,” Olaka declared.
Also speaking, the former Chief Whip of Etche Legislative Assembly, Hon Collins Akanchawa Nwankwo,
corroborated the position of Olaka, stressing that Wike is the only political leader in Rivers State and, as such, everybody should queue behind him.
He added that the Etche people are working in synergy with Wike, pointing out that while Wike is the
A political leader in Rivers State, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, is the leader at the national level.
Asked why Gov Fubara was not invited to the Renewed Hope Ambassadors' inauguration, the former
lawmaker said,” Wike asked us to work with him, so it's an individual decision.
“The Governor is supposed to be here, but because of his selfish interest, he is not here.
“We can't force anybody to be part of the Rainbow Coalition Movement,” Nwankwo said.
Chief Wike had earlier, while addressing the gathering during the inauguration, lamented that they were denied access to Yakubu Gowon Stadium by the Rivers State Government for the programme.
He warned that if it happens again, his group will gain entrance by force into the facility.
Reacting to Wike's allegation, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Dr Honour Sirawoo, who spoke on behalf of the government, denied the allegation, pointing out that no application was received to that effect.
The Permanent Secretary also clarified the fact that the said stadium is currently undergoing
maintenance and as such could not have been available for any programme.
