Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko’s emergence as the Oloja of Lagos-elect has triggered intense conversations, blending celebrity culture with centuries-old royal tradition.

The 72-year-old screen icon was formally presented as Oloja-elect on January 24 at the palace of the Elereko of Lagos, marking a dramatic transition from film sets to ancestral leadership.

Kosoko described the development as a solemn call to service rather than a ceremonial honour, stressing that the position carries deep cultural and communal obligations beyond fame and applause.

While celebrating the recognition as well-earned, the actor remained silent on whether the new royal responsibility would force him to step back from acting, leaving fans and industry observers guessing.

Nollywood heavyweight Bolaji Amusan, popularly known as Mr Latin, hailed the appointment as proof that entertainers are disciplined and socially relevant, noting that Kosoko’s personal integrity and intelligence set him apart among many princes.

Kosoko’s emergence ends years of vacancy following the death of Chief Adebola Ige in 2017, as the King Kosoko Royal Family publicly presented him amid prayers, rites and royal endorsements led by Mrs Mutiat Ali-Balogun and Oyindamola Ayepola.
