The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, has accelerated efforts to position the state as a leading travel and cultural destination.

This was disclosed via the Lagos State Government’s official X platform following a strategic engagement with key stakeholders in the tourism industry.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, made the announcement during a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of AKWAABA Africa Travel Market, Ambassador Ikechi Uko, held on Tuesday as part of the state’s ongoing tourism development initiatives.

The meeting, attended by the Director, Monuments Management Department, Mr. Ladejobi Ibrahim, alongside officers of the Tourism Promotion Department, Mr. Adejuwon Badejo and Mrs. Opemipo Oluwa, focused on strengthening collaboration in destination marketing and tourism development.

Discussions also explored how Lagos can leverage AKWAABA’s globally respected platforms to boost its visibility and attract international investors, tourists, and key industry stakeholders.

AKWAABA Africa Travel Market is widely regarded as one of Africa’s foremost tourism events, bringing together governments, industry players, and stakeholders to promote African travel, hospitality, and cultural exchange.

The platform has played a pivotal role in projecting Lagos and other African destinations to global audiences. The engagement underscores the Lagos State Government’s commitment to sustainable tourism growth and cultural development.

With initiatives such as the Eko Tourism Foundation’s 2026 strategy, Lagos is strategically positioned to emerge as a premier tourism and cultural hub in Africa, driven by strong partnerships and long-term economic opportunities.
