The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) says 10 of the 14 demands made by workers on strike have been met, with efforts ongoing to address the remaining issues. The administration also notes that some workers have dissociated themselves from the strike and should be allowed to access their offices.

According to Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, top officials have held several meetings with union leaders, including on Saturday and Sunday. The meetings aimed to address worker concerns and find resolutions.

In a January 16 meeting with Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) leaders, the FCT Minister’s interventions were discussed, and union officials were urged to adopt dialogue in resolving outstanding issues. The minister had expressed willingness to address demands, including payment of outstanding wage awards and allowances.

The FCTA highlights achievements, such as payment of 13 months’ hazard allowance arrears and one month’s wage award, appreciated by the Association of Resident Doctors. Outstanding promotion arrears are being processed, with N286 million approved for 724 officers.

Other resolved issues include strict compliance with Public Service Rules on tenure elongation and directing staff training needs submission. The Head of Service has formed a committee to address National Housing Funds and Pension Contributions deductions.

The FCTA attributes the strike to unnecessary motivations, citing efforts made to address demands. The administration appeals to security agencies to ensure uninterrupted access to offices for non-striking workers.

The FCTA emphasizes Minister Wike’s commitment to worker welfare, prioritizing their concerns. With most demands met, the strike is seen as unwarranted.

The administration urges workers to return to their duties, emphasizing ongoing efforts to resolve remaining issues through dialogue.
