Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of former Ogun State Governor, Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo, following the death of their matriarch, Chief (Mrs.) Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo, who passed away at the age of 101.

In a statement released in Abeokuta on Tuesday, Governor Abiodun described Mama Onabanjo’s death as the close of a remarkable chapter, noting that she lived an exemplary, fulfilled, and distinguished life marked by devotion to God, her family, and humanity.

The Governor acknowledged that the loss of a mother is deeply painful at any age, but added that Mama Lucia’s peaceful transition at 101 is also a moment to celebrate a life well spent and a legacy that will endure for generations.

He noted that Mama Onabanjo was a steadfast pillar of support to her husband, the late Chief Olabisi Onabanjo, throughout his historic struggles for democracy, human rights, and social justice in Nigeria.

According to the Governor: “After a remarkable era in which she stood side by side with her husband, our revered Papa, Chief Olabisi Onabanjo, in the struggle for democracy, the delivery of its dividends to the people, and the promotion of human rights and social justice, Mama has now been reunited with Papa in glory.

“Mama was a priceless treasure and a constant source of joy to all who encountered her. She never ceased to support us with her prayers and goodwill, radiating warmth, comfort, and hope wherever she went.

“I sympathise with the Onabanjo family, even as I celebrate them for the immeasurable gift that Mama represented to us all.

“She remained unwavering beside her husband and nurtured children and grandchildren who have distinguished themselves across various fields, setting records and making meaningful contributions to society.

“We give thanks to God for her long, fulfilled life and for the enduring legacy of love, resilience, deep faith, and commitment to development that she leaves behind.

“She will be greatly missed for her warmth, wise counsel, passion for progress, and ceaseless prayers. May the Almighty grant her eternal rest in His bosom.”

Governor Abiodun also prayed that God would grant the Onabanjo family, friends, and associates the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
