Still hurting rivals — Ronaldo Targets 1,000 Goals as others run out of records

Cristiano Ronaldo has fired another warning shot at the rest of football, declaring his ambition to win more titles and bulldoze his way to the near-mythical milestone of 1,000 career goals, long after many of his rivals have faded into retirement debates.

The ageless superstar, widely regarded as one of the game’s all-time greats and a constant reminder of what others failed to become, made the statement at the 16th edition of the Globe Soccer Awards held in Dubai on Sunday.

“I want more titles, and I will reach that number. It is hard to continue to play, but the passion is still high and motivates me to carry on. It does not matter where I play, whether it is in the Middle East or Europe, I always enjoy playing football, to win trophies and to score goals, and you know my goal. I want to win more trophies and to reach that number you all know. I will reach that 1000 for sure if no injuries,” Ronaldo said, brushing aside critics who thought his story was already written.

The Al Nassr forward once again stood tallest among his peers, collecting the Best Middle East Player award at the ceremony, while others watched from the shadows.

With league titles, Champions League glory, domestic cups and international honours already stacked beyond comparison, Ronaldo’s hunger continues to embarrass a generation that once hoped he would slow down. Whether they like it or not, the chase for 1,000 goals is on, and he is still leading it.
