The Sokoto State Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy (MIDE) has defended its 2026 budget proposal, calling for adequate funding to accelerate digital governance and strengthen ICT infrastructure across the state.

Leading the ministry’s presentation, the Commissioner for Innovation and Digital Economy, Bashar Umar Kwabo, outlined key achievements recorded by the ministry, including the successful passage of the Sokoto Information and Communications Technology Development Agency (SICTDA) Bill, which he described as a major milestone for the state’s digital transformation agenda.

Kwabo stressed that the ministry’s budget priorities are anchored on digital skills training, capacity building, and innovation-driven growth, noting that sustained investment is critical to preparing Sokoto’s workforce for the evolving digital economy.

Chairman of the House Committee overseeing the ministry, Hon. Awaisu M. Aliyu, assured the delegation of the committee’s support, particularly for approved capital projects that would enhance service delivery and expand ICT access across the state.

The budget defence featured interactive engagements between members of the committee and the MIDE delegation, during which lawmakers sought clarifications on project implementation, funding needs, and expected outcomes.

The meeting was aimed at strengthening digital economy initiatives in Sokoto State and aligning the ministry’s programmes with the broader development objectives of the state government.
