Nasarawa State Health Insurance Agency has registered 308,000 residents of the area for the health insurance Scheme.

Executive Secretary of the State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Yahaya Ubam stated this during a town hall meeting with stakeholders in commemoration of the 2025 Universal Health Coverage Day in Lafia, the State Capital.

Dr Ubam, who disclosed that the meeting was also aimed at reviewing the agency’s activities and to get suggestions from those enrolled as well as owners of facilities registered with the agency, said such would enable the Agency to address any shortfalls to pave the way for improved service delivery.

According to him, the beneficiaries of the Scheme were registered under different packages, such as the public sector, the informal sector, the vulnerable, and those of students.

He said the programme, which was inaugurated in 2019 with zero enrollees, now has at least 308,000 registered persons.

Dr Ubam explained further that many of the enrollees have since benefited from the medical services offered by 260 healthcare facilities across the 13 Local Government Councils of the state.

The Executive Secretary, who revealed that the Agency has already digitalized all its processes to ensure easy access to effective healthcare services by enrollees, called on healthcare providers in the State to be professional in their conduct and give their enrollees the desired services to create confidence and increase people’s enrollment in the scheme.

In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Gaza Gwamna, thanked the Management of the Agency for the innovations they have introduced to ensure effective and better service delivery.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Damina John, the Commissioner assured that the state government would continue to support the agency towards achieving set objectives.
