The Ogun State Police Command has rolled out a comprehensive security operation ahead of the 2025 Christmas and New Year celebrations, with officers deployed to strategic locations across the state to ensure the safety of lives and property.
The command, while assuring residents of adequate security during the festive period, reiterated that the ban on the sale and use of fireworks popularly known as knockouts and bangers remains firmly in place. According to the police, the loud explosions from such items are often mistaken for gunshots or blasts, leading to unnecessary panic, fear, and distress among members of the public.
To sustain peace and public order, the Commissioner of Police has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and all tactical units to intensify patrols and enhance police visibility in key areas. These include residential neighborhoods, markets, motor parks, places of worship, hospitals, and major highways across the state.
The police further warned that anyone found engaging in activities capable of causing public disturbance, injury, or property damage will be arrested and prosecuted in line with the law. Parents and guardians have also been advised to caution their children and wards against using fireworks during the festivities.
Residents of the state are encouraged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by promptly reporting any suspicious movements or security concerns. The Ogun State Police Command has made available the Gateway Shield toll-free line, 0800 000 9111, as well as other emergency numbers: 0906 283 7609, 0912 014 1706, 0915 102 7369, and 0708 497 2994.
The statement was issued on December 15, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
