Comrade Wale Olanrewaju has been returned unopposed as Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, securing a fresh three-year mandate to lead the Council.
His emergence followed a smooth and peaceful election held at the NUJ Secretariat in Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, under the supervision of delegates from the National Secretariat of the Union, led by the NUJ Vice President (Zone B), Ronke Samo.
Thursday’s election was conducted amid tight security, with operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) deployed to maintain order.
Comrade Abiodun Lawal also returned unopposed as Vice Chairman, reaffirming members’ confidence in his leadership.
In the only contested race, Comrade Bunmi Adigun was re-elected Secretary with 153 votes, defeating Comrade Modupe Salabiu, who polled eight votes.

The newly elected executives are expected to consolidate ongoing reforms and strengthen professionalism and welfare advocacy within the union.
In his acceptance speech, Olanrewaju reflected on his first term in office, stating that the renewed mandate belonged to all journalists in the state who believe in professionalism and improved practice.
“I hereby accept this mandate as Chairman, and it is not only for me but for all journalists who believe in professionalism and better duties in Ogun State,” he said.
He praised the electoral committee for conducting a credible and transparent election, describing the process as symbolic and capable of burying the fear of godfatherism in the union.
