The Edo State Police Command has begun investigating the disappearance of Mr. Pedro Muritala, who went into hiding shortly after reporting that his life was in danger from both family members and a notorious confraternity he once belonged to.

Pedro filed a complaint on December 5 at the State Intelligence Department, stating that he had been repeatedly threatened over the property left behind by his late mother, Mrs. Kudiratu Mustapha, who died in 2023. He alleged that his father, Mr. Mustapha Muritala, sold some of the property and warned him against claiming the rest as the rightful first son.

The complainant also accused his father’s relatives of threatening to kill him if he continued to insist on his inheritance. He told police that he was later trailed and attacked by unknown men who warned that he would not survive another attempt to challenge the property ownership.

Police documents revealed that Pedro believes the threat to his life worsened after his father allegedly brought a native doctor into their home to perform rituals. He said he began seeing strange individuals monitoring his movements, forcing him to live in constant fear.

Beyond the family dispute, Pedro said he faces a far greater danger because he once belonged to the Aye Black Axe confraternity, a group he later renounced.

According to his statement, the organisation has been mounting pressure on him to return and has threatened to eliminate him for refusing.

A source who pleaded anonymously described the confraternity as a nationwide network with deep political connections, telling newsman that such influence will make it difficult for the police to protect him from intimidation or attacks. He referenced his claimed with the sudden disappearing of Pedro, believing they might have captured him because the group’s reach is “strong enough to find him anywhere in the country.”

Police sources acknowledged that the allegations of involvement by a powerful confraternity complicate the investigation, especially now that his whereabouts is unknown.

A senior officer said the Command was reviewing every detail to determine the level of threat to Pedro’s life.

Officers are also tracking individuals linked to the physical assault he reported, even as they attempt to establish his current location.

Police confirmed he had already gone missing before investigators could place him under any form of protective surveillance.

The Edo State Police Command authorities say efforts are ongoing to know his whereabouts and ensure Pedro’s safety.
