Tension has continued to rise in the Southeast region following the abduction of a young businessman, Mr. Ede Benjamin Ndubuisi, along Unizik junction Awka.
Mr. Ede was reportedly kidnapped on Sunday, 24th December 2023 a day before Christmas, while travelling home to celebrate the Yuletide with his family.
His close friend who spoke to our correspondent on anonymous due to security concerns disclosed that the victim had, about 18 months ago, lost both his brother and sister in what they described as an assassination carried out by unknown gunmen.
The growing wave of kidnappings and killings in the Southeast has remained a major source of concern to residents, as security operatives appear overwhelmed by the constant attacks and criminal activities in the region.
Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Tochukwu Ikenga DSP, said the command was aware of the abduction and had commenced investigation.
He assured residents that the police are working tirelessly to ensure the arrest and prosecution of those behind the growing insecurity in the state, while appealing for calm and cooperation from members of the public.
