Senator representing Zamfara West Senatorial District and former Governor of Zamfara State, Alh. Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar (Marafan Sokoto) has urged Nigerian elites to reciprocate the trust given to them by Nigerians through the provision of quality leadership at all levels of Government.

In a statement by Hon. Ibrahim Muhammad (Danmadamin Birnin Magaji), Chairman Publicity Committee, the Senator, made the plea in his capacity as Chairman of One Nigeria Project, an amalgamation of former elected Local government Council Chairmen of Nigeria, the National Association of former elected Chairmen of Local Government Councils of Nigeria (NALGON) at the official flag off of the project held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at NAF Conference Center, Kado Abuja.

Senator Abdulaziz Yari said if the Nigerian elites are appreciative of the opportunity given to them by about 300 million Nigerian people, they would have been working tirelessly and determined to improve the lot of the citizenry instead of seizing any given opportunity to further divide them along religious, ethnic, and political lines.

He explained that Nigeria’s problems can be solved by Nigerians, and as such, there was no need for any external intervention.

He therefore warned people to stop making an issue out of a non-issue, using every opportunity to foment trouble to their advantage.

On the One Nigeria Project, the Chairman stated that it was conceived as a National calling that will promote peace, unity, cohesion, stability, and progress of Nigeria and Nigerians because its operators are closer to the people in the grassroots.

Citing India as an example, the Marafan Sokoto maintained that if it can attain greatness despite its over 900 ethnic tribes, then Nigeria, with about 300 tribes, can also do it the Indian way.

He therefore called on the executives and members of the Association to work toward achieving the set objectives.

In his remark, National Chairman of the Association, Barrister Shaba Ibrahim pledged their resolve to justify the confidence reposed in them.

Dr. Lawal M Liman (Gabɗon Ƙaura), Chairman of A A Yari Political Organization and Head of Board of Directors, Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika Zaria, Kaduna State was elected as Deputy National Chairman, North of the Association while Hon. Aliyu Abubakar MC (Ɗanmasanin Tsafe) will serve as its National Organising Secretary.
