The Honourable Commissioner for Industry in Anambra State, Mr Christian Udechukwu, on behalf of the Executive Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has on Thursday, December 4, paid a solidarity visit to Babymate Diaper factory, where a devastating fire outbreak recently razed down production machines, office equipment, and other valuables worth billions of naira.

Udechukwu expressed his deep sympathy for the loss and reassured swift action towards rebuilding and modernizing the factory to enhance safety and prevent future tragedies.

“We have come on a solidarity visit to reassure the Management that the Governor of Anambra State will work with deliberate intention and purposefully to help them rebuild from the ruins.

“We expect that a new modern factory with more advanced technology will be standing here by the grace of God within the shortest possible time. The team from the Ministry of Environment will come and make an assessment to see how the fire incident might have affected the environment, and do a report which will be part of the reconstruction and rebuilding phase of this factory.

“It is a very important establishment. Chief Humphrey Ngonadi (Ngobros) is a leading industrialist not just in Nnewi or Anambra but a national player. He is the Vice-President of Southeast and South South Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA),” he disclosed.

He further noted that the government would work closely with Development Finance Institutions such as the Bank of Industry and the Development Bank of Nigeria to ensure that development finances are accessible in rebuilding the establishment.

“This factory will be rebuilt because we have a lot of funds to support industrial development. Government will support the Director of the factory, Ngobros, to have access to development finance through the Bank of Industry and other Development Financial Agencies,s” he reassured.

Finally, he stated that the government would ensure that Emergency Response Services in Nnewi would be assessed and evaluated for prompt and adequate response whenever such a disaster occurs.
