In a ceremony that spotlighted Nigeria’s top-performing public institutions, the Director-General/CEO of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Prof. Charles Anosike, was on December 3rd, 2025, honoured with the BusinessDay Public Service Excellence Award—a recognition reserved for reform-driven leaders shaping the country’s governance landscape.
The award, presented during the 7th edition of the BusinessDay Public Lecture Series and Excellence Awards, celebrates public officials whose strategic leadership has elevated institutional performance and strengthened data-driven governance nationwide.
Prof. Anosike, who has been widely credited with repositioning NiMet as a modern, efficiency-driven agency, was recognized for his transformative impact on Nigeria’s meteorological and climate services sector. Under his stewardship, NiMet has accelerated climate resilience initiatives, expanded data accuracy and accessibility, and deepened the role of science in national planning.
According to the Awards Committee, the honour reflects Anosike’s “exceptional commitment, strategic foresight, and unwavering pursuit of innovation and service quality.” His win in the Excellence in Public Service category underscores what observers describe as his consistent push for global-standard institutional reforms.
Also honoured at the event were several high-profile public leaders, including:
Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development
Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation
Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs
The ceremony brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and governance experts in what has become one of Nigeria’s most respected platforms for acknowledging public sector distinction.
