The Commissioner for Rural Development and Energy, Kogi State, Hon Mohammed Abdulmutalib, has emphasized the crucial role of electrical contractors in Nigeria’s power sector development. He made this statement in a keynote address at the inauguration of the newly elected National Executive of the Licensed Electrical Contractors Association of Nigeria (LECAN).

Hon Abdulmutalib noted that electrical contractors are the backbone of Nigeria’s power infrastructure, responsible for designing, installing, and maintaining systems that bring power to homes, businesses, and industries. He stressed that their work is vital to the country’s economic growth, social development, and overall well-being.

The Commissioner commended LECAN for its efforts to promote quality and professionalism in the electrical contracting industry. He urged the newly elected National Executive to focus on capacity building, advocacy, and networking to achieve its goals.

Hon Abdulmutalib also highlighted the Federal Government’s efforts to improve the power sector, including the privatization of the power sector and the establishment of the Rural Electrification Agency. He assured LECAN of the Kogi State Government’s support and collaboration in promoting the interests of electrical contractors.

In his welcome address, High Chief Otunba Dele Akintola congratulated the newly elected National President, High Chief Vitus Ofodum, and his team. He urged them to lead with integrity, humility, and wisdom, and to prioritize the growth and stability of LECAN.

High Chief Ofodum Vitus Ikenna, in his acceptance speech, expressed gratitude to the members of LECAN for placing their trust in him and his team. He pledged to work tirelessly to promote quality and professionalism in the electrical contracting industry, focusing on capacity building, advocacy, and networking.

The newly elected National President emphasized that LECAN’s theme for the term, “Empowering Electrical Contractors for a Brighter Future”, resonates with the Federal Government’s efforts to improve the power sector. He invited all members to join him on this journey, saying, “Together, we can achieve greatness”.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including the Chief Judge of FCT, Honourable Justice. The event was a celebration of the new leadership and a commitment to promoting quality and professionalism in the electrical contracting industry.

LECAN’s new leadership has a huge responsibility to promote quality and professionalism in the industry, and to ensure that the association continues to grow and contribute to Nigeria’s development.
