‘I Am Yoruba’: Adebayor breaks internet with bold cultural declaration

Emmanuel Adebayor has sent social media into a frenzy after boldly declaring his Yoruba identity in a video now circulating widely online.
The former Arsenal and Tottenham striker shocked many fans who hadn’t known his deep cultural roots.

Adebayor, who remains the only African to play for both north London rivals, reinforced his heritage in fluent Yoruba.
“I am Oluwalosheyi Emmanuel Adebayor, the son of the King,” he said. “I know who I am and where I am from. I can’t deny my origin.”

Born in Lomé to parents Adeyi Adebayor and Alice Adekanye, the former Real Madrid forward represented Togo internationally.
Yet he made it clear that his ancestral identity is unmistakably Yoruba, putting long-standing debates about his origin to rest.
