Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, says the country could realistically co-host a FIFA World Cup in partnership with Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, urging government officials to begin exploring the ambitious possibility.
Adams said the recent trend of multi-nation tournaments, such as the 2026 World Cup in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, and the 2030 edition in Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, presents a timely opportunity for West Africa.
He noted that Ghana, Nigeria, and Côte d’Ivoire all possess the foundational infrastructure and continental experience needed, especially with Côte d’Ivoire’s recent hosting of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The minister expressed confidence that with planning and investment, the three nations could jointly bid for football’s biggest prize.
Ghana’s most recent major hosting experience came in 2024 with the rescheduled African Games, while Côte d’Ivoire delivered one of the most successful AFCON tournaments in recent history.
