In a development that has sent ripples through Nasarawa State’s political landscape, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau, has declared that he will not seek re-election in 2027—drawing the curtains on a 12-year legislative career.

Dr. Jatau, who represents Kokona West constituency, made the announcement with an emotional note of gratitude to his constituents for their steadfast support across his three terms in office. The Speaker, known for his calm disposition and consensus-driven leadership style, said he believes strongly in exiting the stage at the height of public appreciation.

According to him, “It is always good for you to leave this stage when the ovation is still high.”

A distinguished scholar and the first PhD holder to serve as Speaker in the history of the Nasarawa State Assembly, Dr. Jatau has been widely acknowledged for championing inclusive governance, peace, and unity during his tenure.

His decision not to return in 2027 has already stirred political calculations, with observers watching closely for likely successors and shifting alliances ahead of the next election cycle.

As Nasarawa prepares for a new legislative era, stakeholders say Dr. Jatau’s imprint on the Assembly—and his contributions to state development—will remain a significant part of its history.
