The Zamfara state chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ has formally inaugurated two new standing committees to assist in the smooth running of the council’s activities and also commended the state Governor Dr. Dauda Lawal over his plans to construct a new and fully equipped secretariat for the Union.
This was carried out at the old council’s secretariat during the NUJ Congress in Gusau, where more than eight chapels of the Union converged to motivate members and deliberate on the achievements challenges and prospects of the Council.
Speaking at the occasion, the Director General, Media and Communications to Governor Lawal, Alhaji Nuhu Salisu Anka, represented by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Lawal on Broadcast Media Alhaji Mustapha Jafar Kaura said the state Congress was pertinent to check the reportorial pattern of journalists as well as encourage newsmen on the right areas to redirect their energies and expertise for effective reporting.
Nuhu urged journalists to stay on professionalism and avoid being disgraced by the committee that was set up or any other groups in the state.
He called on the leadership of the Council to make formal application for laptop computers to be donated to all registered members of the union, promising that, they would facilitate to ensure the application is attended to within a shortest period of time.
In his words, the Guest speaker at the occasion Comrade Yusuf Idris Gusau, the APC publicity secretary represented by MD Danfako TV, Alhaji Dahiru Mafara warned journalists against subjecting themselves to be used as tools of betrayal and blackmail.
He called on journalists in the state to reject any politician who would offer any brown envelopes and persuading to spread rumours of lies and falsehood.
Earlier in his words, the Zamfara state Chairman of NUJ council, Comrade Ibrahim Musa Maizare commended Governor Dauda Lawal over his plans to construct a newly equipped and state-of-the-art secretariat for the Union.
He reiterated the commitment of the union to consistently support the good policies and programmes of the state Government and ensure objective reporting over every activity of the state.
