Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed that former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is set to return to the ring before the end of 2025, marking his first fight since undergoing elbow surgery earlier this year.

Anthony Joshua has been out of action since his IBF heavyweight title defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024.

The 36-year-old underwent successful elbow surgery in May this year and resumed training in September as he continues his road to recovery.

Hearn revealed that Anthony Joshua is expected to feature on one of Matchroom Boxing’s upcoming events in December, with dates in Riyadh (December 27), California (December 13), and London (November 15) all under consideration.

Speaking to DAZN, Hearn said, “Yes, AJ will fight before the end of 2025. We’ve got several shows lined up, Monaco, Riyadh, and California, and one of those will feature Joshua’s return.”

Hearn clarified that Anthony Joshua’s comeback will be a “run-out fight”, designed to help him shake off ring rust before returning to major bouts in 2026.

“If he fights this year, it will just be a run-out fight,” Hearn told iFLTV. “Coming back after a year and a half out and going straight into a big fight isn’t easy. This one isn’t about money, it’s about getting him back in rhythm.”

Anthony Joshua’s comeback bout will be his first time not headlining a card since 2015, when he appeared on the undercard of Kell Brook vs Frankie Gavin at the O2 Arena.
