A Beninese , Monday Karezu’ 32 years and Anagonou Kamelan a 44 years old Togolese have been arrested by men of Ogun state police command for being in possession of human head.
The arrest was contained in a release made available to newsmen in Abeokuta on Sunday by the Spokesman of the state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi.
Oyeyemi said that the suspects were arrested, following information received by men of modus operandi section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department that some men are coming to an herbalist’s house with human head which they want to use for money ritual.
The statement stated further “upon the information, the DSP of the area Nurudeen Gafar led team swiftly moved to the area where the herbalist’s house was situated and laid ambush there”.
Oyeyemi added that after about two hours of waiting, the two suspects arrived on a motorcycle with a bag containing the human head, and were quickly rounded up by the policemen who had been patiently waiting for them.
“On interrogation, Monday Karezu, a national of Benin Republic informed the police that he got the head from a place known as Ijale Papa. This made policemen to follow him to the place only to discover that he was lying.
Further investigation revealed that Monday karezu is a resident of Sabo area of Abeokuta, and that the human head with him was that of a woman who died three months ago during childbirth and was buried not too far from his house.” the statement added
The state police Spokesman added that It was further discovered that the suspect had one time killed his nine months old daughter and used her head for the same purpose but was not successful. He had also exhumed another corpse, removed the head and used it for money making ritual but also failed.
The statement further stated that ” the latest one that landed him in trouble was introduced to him by Anagonou kamalen a Togolese, who told him that he knew an herbalist who could help him achieve his dreams of being rich through money ritual .
” This made him to go and exhumed the corpse of the woman buried not too far away from his house, cut off the head and in company of his accomplice, took it to the herbalist house where they were apprehended before delivering it” the statement stated.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, in Ogun State CP Bankole, has ordered a full investigation into the past activities of the suspects with a view to charging them to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
