A businessman, Mr. Chijioke Kinsley Offor, has cried out for help after the Imo State Police Command’s Tiger Base unit allegedly raided his house in Okigwe, Imo State. The incident occurred on April 16, 2025, at around 11 pm, with reports indicating that officers broke into six flats, making away with cash and valuables.
Details of the alleged raid, according to them were from Dr. Valentine, two laptops, four power banks, and N200,000 cash were stolen, from another tenant, N1,880,000 cash, among others, from Offor, the landlord’s flat, N13,500,000 cash, a pump-action gun with a license, and various documents were collected.
Concerns Over Tiger Base Police Unit
The Tiger Base Police Unit has faced criticism for alleged misconduct, including extortion and harassment of innocent citizens. Stakeholders have called for the Commissioner of Police to address these issues and ensure accountability within the unit.
Call for Investigation and Action
Mr. Offor’s family and friends are seeking justice and demanding the return of stolen items. They are also calling for a thorough investigation into the matter, citing concerns over the unit’s actions and potential abuse of power.
The case highlights the need for police accountability and transparency, particularly in high-handed operations like the one described. The Inspector General of Police (IGP) and relevant authorities must take immediate action to address these allegations and ensure that justice is served.
Response from the Police
The Imo State Police Command has promised to investigate the matter and take necessary actions. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) has stated that the command does not condone high-handedness or misconduct by its personnel and has set up internal disciplinary mechanisms to address such issues.
[9/14, 2:30 PM] my lines, whatsapp code & nin, service -wise gpt: When contacted, the Imo CP directed us to the O.C. Tiger Base, and when he was called, the person who received the call denied being a police officer, as well as being the O.O. Tiger Base. However, as the case had also been reported to the Force Headquarters, the PPRO when contacted directed us to the PPRO of Imo State Command, as he wasn’t available.
However, when also contacted, the PPRO, DSP Henry Okoye said: In Imo police command, we don’t encourage any form of high-handedness, incivility to the members of the public, or any form of misconduct by our personnel. That is what we set up internal disciplinary mechanisms, like Complaint Response Squad, IGP Squad, the Provost Squad, Human Rights Office, among others, at all police divisions in Imo
“Let the complaint call me on phone, for us to revisit the matter. It is wrong and absolutely condemnable for a police officer to go for an arrest, and in the process, loot the suspect’s. That is gross misconduct and that policeman’s rank will be punished.
“This thing you said that happened in April, I haven’t got the complaint. Let him visit the office of the Police Public Relations Department in Imo Comma. We are going to dictate the matter and follow the complaint to his house.
“The personnel that led the operation will actually be invited for interrogations. The outcome of the investigations will determine the next line of action,” the PPRO stated categorically.
