FCTA demolishes over 30 structures at River Park Estate

The Federal Capital Territory Administration’s Development Control Department carried out a demolition exercise at River Park Estate in Abuja on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. The demolition targeted over 30 structures that had been erected overnight, despite the FCT Administration’s announcement that undeveloped plots in the estate had reverted back to the government due to the expiration of the lease agreement, according to Rabi Musa Umar the Assistant Director Press Office of the Minister on Wednesday.
The decision to reclaim the plots was based on a recommendation from a committee established by FCT Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, to investigate land issues at River Park Estate.
The committee’s report revealed that the Development Lease Agreement had expired, and the FCTA had directed that all undeveloped plots be reverted back to the government.D
Despite the official directive, about 30 developers moved onto the plots and began construction activities overnight.
The Director of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, led the enforcement team and warned that any further illegal construction would be demolished, and prosecution could follow.G
Galadima emphasized that the FCTA would not tolerate any disobedience to its directives and would take necessary actions to enforce compliance.
Some residents in the adjoining areas have been affected by the crisis, with reports of blocked access roads and damaged properties.
Pastor Chimdi Obwe, an affected resident, lamented the disruption to his family’s life and the difficulties they face in accessing their home.
