Kebbi Gov’t debunks distribution of sub-standard fertilisers to farmers

By: John Bassey, Kebbi.

Kebbi State Government has denied the allegation that it has distributed sub-standard fertilisers to farmers in the state.

The government described the allegation as not only untrue but also a plot to blacken the people’s governor in the eyes of hard-working farmers of the state.

Addressing journalists on Thursday in his office in Birnin Kebbi, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Sheahu Ma’azu, expressed dismay over the allegation, saying that the entire message was baseless and misleading.

It could be recalled that some members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state had gone on air claiming that the Kebbi State Government had distributed sub-standard fertilisers mixed with sand to farmers.

“This allegation is totally false and it is misleading the general public. The state government has never procured a sub-standard fertiliser, let alone distributed it to farmers.

“It is pertinent to note that the state government has not awarded any contract for the procurement of fertilisers, instead, it procured the commodity directly from a reputable indigenous company for onward distribution to farmers.

“Therefore, we want the opposition parties in Kebbi State to always verify their information before levelling any allegations,” he suggested.

Ma’azu advised the good people of Kebbi State to disregard such information, insisting that the Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, was doing everything possible to supply genuine and standard fertilisers to farmers free of charge to enhance their revenue base and boost food security.

He explained that the allegation was mischievous, baseless, and unfair, hence people needed to distance themselves from it.

The three fertilizer companies engaged by the State Government for the supply of fertilizer were: Maccat Agro Limited, Danmadami Fertilizer blending plant, and Contect.

Also, Mairiga company was engaged by the Local Governments for the procurement of the fertilizer.
