Ekiti Assembly confirms Ogunmoye as Chief Judge

The Ekiti State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Justice Adekanye Ogunmoye as the substantive Chief Judge of the State.

In a unanimous vote, taken after deliberations on his nomination by the legislature, the lawmakers were united in their position that the acting Chief Judge was eminently qualified for the exalted position.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye had earlier read the letter from governor Biodun Oyebanji requesting for the screening and confirmation of Acting Chief Judge Ogunmoye as substantive Chief Judge.

The Chairman House Committee on Judiciary and Legal matter, Mr Babatunde Oke also presented the report of the committee which the house deliberated on and adopted at the committee of the whole house.

The Majority Leader, Hon. Tolu Ige who read the position of the majority party, and the Minority Leader , Hon. Oladele Ogunsakin whose position was read by the Speaker described Ogunmoye as fitted for the position.

They expressed confidence that the Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji has made the right choice in Ogunmoye , as they are hopeful he would drive the judiciary higher with with legacies of justice and integrity.

Called to the bar in 1987, Justice Ogunmoye joined the Ondo State Civil Service afterwards.

He had been the Acting Chief Judge of the state since the demise of Justice Ayodeji Adeyeye who held the position till his death in November 2024.

In a chat with journalists after the confirmation, Justice Ogunmoye identified technology as a priority instrument that would be maximized under his watching, promising that quick and truthful dispensation of justice would also be ensured.

Under the matter of urgent public importance, Hon Tolulope Ige also drew the attention of the House to Artificial hike in Fuel price in Ekiti State which was not in consonance with the official from depot.

Contributing to the matter, Hon Tope Longe and Lateef Akanle described the attitude of those engaging in such as exploitation and a cruel action that would increase hardship in the state.

Meanwhile, the Speaker has directed the Chairmen joint Committee on Security and Special Duties, Hon Babatunde Omotayo, Trade and Investment, Hon.Tope Longe to interface with the Petroleum dealers in the state and report to the House within the next two weeks.
