His rights violations on grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity, threat to life, blackmail and extortion, mob justice, battery and assault, arbitrary arrest, illegal detention and imprisonment had made one Mr. Victor Okoye to run away for his involvement in homosexuality.
According to a source, Mr. Victor Okoye, a former catholic catechist from Enugu in Enugu State of Nigeria has been practicing homosexuality from his youthful days. It was on this regard that he was declared wanted by the police on 5th day of March, 2020.
Every 5th March of every year, the youth of his community led by Osigwe Nwanna and Marcus Anthony usually stormed his family home demanding for his head.
For instance, this year 5th March 2025, the youth raided his house with the aim of fishing him out to face the wrath of the law over the heinous act that leads to the death of his partner Mr. Okereke Pascal.
According to a family source, Mr. Victor has gone into hiding since he escaped lynching and arrest on the 5th day of March, 2020 and his whereabouts is unknown to us.
The family has been banned, ostracized and restricted from public functions. We no longer participate in community activity as a result of this problem.
Mr. Victor Okoye is a notorious gay from his secondary school days.
In several occasions he Mr. Victor and Pascal were caught in the acts of homosexuality and beating mercilessly by the vigilante groups and the youth of his community, still they continue to practice and indulged in gay activities but fate ran out of them on March 5, 2020 when they were caught recoiling in an uncompleted building by the youth of the community.
The Community people and the youth swooped on the duo, tortured them and in the process Mr. Pascal died instantly at the scene of the incident while Mr. Victor escaped and the matter was reported to the police who afterwards declared him wanted
Homosexuality is regarded as taboo in most communities in Enugu as they belief that the gods will curse the land with diseases, famine and mass deaths especially of children.
It is a serious offense against the gods of the land. It is also an offence under the Criminal Code of Enugu State and Nigeria which prohibits any form of relationship including “domestic partnerships,” “caring partnerships,” or “adult independent relationships” between two individuals of the same sex. It also punishes any public show of affection, even a kiss, between two people of the same sex, with lengthy prison terms for those convicted of such offences.
The act of same sex relationship is regarded as sacrilege in most villages in Enugu State. The degree of penalty differs from one community to another but has dire consequences.
Fact-finding report states that people who are arrested on homosexuality charges are “put under considerable pressure to confess, and sentences passed on confessions cannot be appealed,” the chances of getting a fair trial once arrested or prosecuted are considered non-existent.
The family of Mr. Pascal (his death partner) has sworn never to let him go until he goes the way of their son.
Mr. Victor Okoye will soon be banished from our community.
According to the Eze (King) Ndigbo of ENUGU COMMUNITY, Mr. Victor Okoye
has absconded and refused to report to the police or the youth to face his punishment as our custom demands, he will be banished, ostracized and in essence, his dignity of ENUGU will be revoked, his right, inheritance and any other benefits accruing to him as a son of this community will be revoked, stripes and terminated permanently. The only option he has is to make himself available for the appropriate authorities for his deserved punishment.
But the question is how will our land be cleansed in the absence of Victor? The gods required his presence for the internal cleansing to be carried out that’s why the youth and the vigilante group has been mandated to fish him out irrespective of the cost and the time frame. We will continue to issue threats to the family from time to time until he is produced.
The policemen on their part have been on red alert for years searching for him.
He has been targeted severally by the security agencies for his active involvement in homosexuality.
The security agencies are still in search of him.
According to the police, Mr. Victor Okoye, is Dark in complexion, Awgu in Enugu state, in Nigeria. He speaks English and Igbo fluently and He was last seen on March 2020 around Lagos state.
Anybody with useful information that will leads to his arrest should report to the nearest police station or the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
