Ex-Unilag Professor, Timothy-Asobele appoints as Lagos Literary Society President

Professor Samuel Jide Timothy-Asobele has been appointed as the President, Lagos Literary Society, LLS, by the Chairman and members of Board of the society.
The former Head of Department of European Languages, Unilag, is a renowned literary giant, with over 50 publications to his credit.
Announcing the appointment in a letter to the graduate of Sorbonne, University of Paris, France, the Emeritus Chairman of the Board of the Lagos Literary Society, Professor FBO Akporobaro, said Professor Timothy- Asobele will function for one year between May, 2025-May, 2026.
While accepting the offer, Professor Timothy- Asobele, expressed delight at what he described as a distinguished offer.
The Kabba, Kogi State-born ex-Unilag don gleefully said: “I am delighted that LLS has considered me worthy of such honour.”
He said, “I do not take this promotion for granted;” and highlighted that, “When Cardinal Richelieu in 1605 created the French Academy to bestow on the best writers in France membership, it was considered the very apogee of France’s literary glory.”
Timothy- Asobele, who will assume his new role on May 17, at a ceremony in Lagos, also showered encomiums on fellow literary giants and honorees like Akeem Lasisi, late Bode Osanyin, Dr Udu Yakubu and Prof Olusegun Osayomi for their contributions to literature.
He said he is lucky to be paraded among literally giants like Nobel Laureates, Professor Wole Soyinka, JP Clark, Prof Akporobaro, among others.
