Niger Electricity distribution company rolls out drums July 2025 NiSERC Boss

Chairman of the Niger Electricity Distribution Company has disclosed that the company is to take over the role of distribution of electricity from Abuja Electric Distribution Company (AEDC) and Ibadan Electric Distribution Company (IBEDC) from 9th of July 2025

The State Chairman of the Electricity Regulatory Commission Engr Mohammed Sharu made this known during a meeting with the License Electric Contractors Association of Nigeria (LECAN) Niger state chapter in his office.

In his words during the meeting, Engr Sharu emphatically stated that “with the signing of electricity act 2023 and subsequent domestication of the act in Niger state by Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago, the role of distribution, licensing, regulating, wooing investors and policing now lies with his commission”.

He further stressed that the AEDC and IBEDC is now Sub Co to operate under the State’s electricity distribution company and their names changed to Niger State Electricity Distribution Company and New Bussa Distribution company.

Sharu however advised that licensed contractors whose licenses has expired should commence register with his commission, warning that the commission will not take it lightly with any contractor who uses substandard electrical appliances and gadgets.

The Chairman stated that “any erring contractors found wanting will be sanctioned and penalized accordingly.”

Responding to the Commission Chairman’s remark, the Chairman of Licensed electricity contractors Engr Godwin Azodo appreciated the commission for enlightening his members on the new development.

He assured that the executive of the association and his members will avail the commission all the support and cooperation.

According to him “with the caliber of the commission’s members who are well experienced, the power sector in Niger state will be well sanitized, organized and beneficial to Nigerlites.
